Frequently Asked Questions

What is BioFlex Laser Therapy?
The technology utilizes superluminous and laser diodes to treat diseased or traumatized tissue with photos. These particles of energy are selectively absorbed by the cell membrane and intracellular molecules, resulting in the initiation of a cascade of complex physiological reactions, leading to the restoration of normal cell structure and function. The process is curative and therefore results in the elimination of symptoms, including pain. In addition, Laser Therapy enhances the body’s immune response and facilitates natural healing.
Is Laser Therapy painful?
Laser Therapy is completely safe, non-invasive, non-toxic and pain-free. No pain is experienced during a Laser Therapy treatment, you may feel a warm soothing sensation and for many this is very relaxing – some people even fall asleep during treatment! All our BIOFLEX Laser Therapy systems are Health Canada and FDA approved.
Are there any side effects to Laser Therapy?
Laser Therapy is an extremely safe form of treatment with no known side effects experienced.
Are there any contraindications to Laser Therapy?
We do not treat directly over the eyes, thyroid, areas of known cancer, and during the first trimester of pregnancy.
Is Laser Therapy Covered by OHIP or my Extended Health Benefits?
Laser Therapy is not currently covered by OHIP. If you have extended health benefits you can make an appointment for an initial assessment with our Chiropractor AND/OR Physiotherapist to have your treatments covered within their scope of practice.
Is Laser Therapy safe for all ages?
Laser Therapy is safe for anyone older than 2 years of age.
Do I need a referral from my doctor for Laser Therapy?
There is no requirement to obtain a referral from your doctor to receive Laser Therapy.
How many treatment sessions will I need?
Total number of treatment sessions will usually be determined during the initial consultation with the average of conditions/injuries requiring 6-20 treatments.
How long is a typical Laser Therapy treatment session?
Each Laser Therapy treatment session will depend on the area/condition being treated. Treatments will often range from 30 minutes to 75 minutes.
How quickly can I expect to see results?
Results are almost immediately evident for some people, while most people will typically see results after 3-5 treatments. Again, this is depending on the severity of the condition, it could be more, or it could less.
Is there anything I need to do or avoid after my 1st Laser Therapy treatment?
No, you may continue your day as planned, however we do advise people to avoid participating in activities that will further aggravate the area while it is healing.
Can Laser Therapy be used over medical implants or over metal?
Laser Therapy will not interfere or heat up any surgical/metal implants (pacemakers, surgical screws, artificial joints, etc.). It is completely safe with no side effects and extremely effective for post-operative wound healing.
